Best 3 questions for a happy life

Best 3 questions for a happy life

Konstantin Stanislavsky, a ground-breaking force in the world of acting, transformed the craft with his systematic approach to character development: Stanislavsky taught his acting students to ask 3 questions of their character in any scene. Who am I? How did I get here? and What do I want?

These questions form the cornerstone of Stanislavsky’s technique, providing actors with a roadmap to richer, more authentic performances.

While these are wonderful questions to help any actor, for me, they are profound questions to ask ourselves. In my Clinical Hypnotherapy and NLP Coaching practice (www.perthhypnotherapist.com.au) I always get my clients to ask themselves the third question – what do I want? That way together we can find give their system directions on where they want to go and find the inner resources to help them get there.

In my practice I find that asking these questions personally with a Coaching guide helps clients to find a more rewarding and authentic life.

Who am I?

This question delves into identity. Understanding your character involves exploring your background, personality, and motivations. It’s not just about surface-level traits but also about what makes you tick—what are your fears, desires, and values? This self-awareness helps my clients build a rich, grounded and present life.

How did I get here?

This question examines the client’s journey leading up to the current moment. It involves considering their past experiences, relationships, and events that have shaped their present circumstances. By answering this, clients gain insight into their emotional and psychological state, allowing for the learning to be obtained and letting go of any old thoughts, and beliefs.

What do I want?

Finally, understanding what you want in life is crucial for driving your actions and decisions. These objectives fuels behaviour and choices. Whether it’s a tangible goal or an emotional need, knowing what you want helps shape your state so you can have that.

By addressing these three questions, Stanislavsky’s actors and my clients in Clinical Hypnotherapy practice can create clear motivations, positive emotional depth and learning and what they want in their lives.
