Women's Choreography 6-week Workshop
Wednesdays 23rd July - 27th August
2-4 pm
North Fremantle Community Hall, 2 Thompson Road, North Fremantle
Yesterday, A friend said to me, "the idea of coming to your workshop is terrifying!”
I get it!
I know I felt that way many times doing my PhD in Performance to create this new and exciting work.
I am so proud of myself for all of the times over the past six years I did the theatre, movement or improvisation that I was afraid of. Doing this work allowed me to find the self -love and self-esteem that allowed me to finally love myself and to create this work.
AI is okay but I think the world needs FI (Feminine Intelligence) and it is in our bodies. Now is the time feminine wisdom needs to shine the brightest. I feel it is more terrifying if woman don't reclaim their wholeness, their creativity and be all that they can be - what a tragedy.
I designed the workshop space to be safe, I promise it will be fun, and you will find gems and resources inside that you didn’t know that you have. You will also find self love and acceptance.
.
Years ago, at the beginning of my PhD I was at a movement class, all introverted and locked up in myself and scared of what people might think of me. In stark contrast, one of the facilitators, rolled across the floor like a five year old might and introduced herself. She said “hi, I am an international dancer” the words rolled beautifully off her tongue and her whole body resonated with the truth of it. Those words inspired me. WOW, I came home and wrote them on my wall - we are all in a body. Movement is a place of celebration and presence.
My workshops help you create safety and trust in your body, so that you can create what you want from your highest self, for your highest good.
Trust is an inside job!
To find trust in life, I needed to reconnect with my body, move my body, be witnessed with other like minded souls. Liberating Performance workshops are for women who want to be free and creative. The focus workshop is on our wholeness. Find love and self-esteem, connect with your creativity and learn to trust yourself moving towards wholeness through moving your body.
Theatre Games will be used for the warm-ups in these workshops which are embodied, playful, fun, relaxing, and nurturing building trust in the body and in the group. Theatre games open communication and stimulate collective creativity.
Image-making, storytelling, improvisation, and play open up new resources in our bodies. Storytelling together building community and connection. The movement section of the workshop will involve shapes and gestures from the participants as well as choreographic tools that I have collected in my research so far in my research and attending choreographic training over the past 5 years. Participants will collaborate with the group towards a performance within our group over the 6 weeks.
